2017 Pure Potentiality

On the first full moon of 2017, our nomadic tribe gathered at J7 Studios, in Moss Beach

Karianne Burns

Karianne Burns

In this hip sound recording studio, young Karianne Burns, play the angelic harp as the ladies arrived.  The intention for this gathering was to envision our abundant new year and look back at our strong circles from last year.

In 2016, we all had our personal ups and downs, but in our Moon Mothers circles, we were strong and vibrant.  Every full moon we gathered to embody the power of a different Goddess archetype and connected to our true soul essence.

The slide-show below, titled,  2016 Moon Mothers Circles, was set to music and projected 100 times larger than it shows on this blog.  Through this show we deepened our connection as a tribe and recalled our joyful gatherings.

Cozy on the floor we began our New Year Manifestation meditation.

pure-potiential02

The musical notes from Karianne’s harp seemed to resonate with the frequency of each chakra as we cleared any blocks in our energy centers.  With our chakras balanced and clear we began our meditative journey into one of the most magnificent years of our lives.  In our minds eye we moved through the seasons with a strong body and felt the vital energy of physical movement. Mused for a moment on a new study commitment and felt the satisfaction of learning and teaching. Our bodies were still one the floor but our minds went on a journey to a new place on earth and we felt the freedom of unencumbered travel.  Reaffirming that our work in this word is important and money flows to us easily: we turned our attention to our home sanctuary that was uncluttered and beautiful. With sincere appreciation for the kindhearted people in our life we sent them love and gratitude.

Our Manifestation Meditation was not about the things we would obtain this year.  It was about our way of being in the world, self-care, learning, teaching, speaking our truth and gratitude for the people in our life.

Light of Lakshmi

Once our circle was cast, we paused to watch the setting sun melt into the sea.  The final light of the sun miraculously flashed green.lakshmi04  Shouts of joy and astonishment set the tone for our divine feminine circle.  On this rare super moon we gathered at the private, bluff top home of Michelle Pettigrew.

Our ceremony was dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess of abundance and shining brilliance.  We all needed some light after the darkness of last week.  Taking a respite from our mourning we reignited the light in each other and kindled our own inner light.

Around the ceremonial fire we were tethered to each other as a mirror of light.  Without fear of being deemed conceited, each woman spoke of her brilliance.

Like a slow moving lava flow we moved inside to get cozy and be soothed by Leah’s powerful voice as she sang, I am Light, by India Arie.

Is this ceremony enough to keep our spirit shining bright for more than a night?  As the moon wanes and the darkness of this time returns, check your mail box.  The light expression letters will be mailed when the moon has vanished from the sky.  One thing we know for sure, Mother moon will slowly return to her full brilliance and so will we.

’til we meet again, keep shining.

Thank you Erica Crawford for your excellent photography.

Sincerely,

Tamara Trejo

Mawu

Thick fog shrouded the setting sun and rising moon, bringing the dark of night soon after we cast out circle.  On this chilly night, we dedicated our ceremony to the one who goes by many names ( Gaia, Tara, Mother Earth, Mawu and may more).   In respect for our African ancestors, in this ritual, we called her Mawu. Through our heart, feet and back bodies, we connected to her subtle resonance.

When we rose from our story telling circle, intuitively half the women picked up a drum and the other half silently began to walk the labyrinth.mawu  Without words, our drumming synchronized to the pulse of Mawu’s heart beat.

The labyrinth walkers connected to Mawu through their feet as they stepped to the tempo of the drums.mawu05 Like a slow moving river,  the walkers flowed from the labyrinth and began to drum as the drummers flowed into the labyrinth.  The cadence of Mawu’s heart beat stayed steady through the exchange of walkers and rhythm keepers.

Upon returning to our circle, we laid on our backs in meditation to connect deeper with Mawu.  Extending our first red root chakra deep into Mawu, and tethering it to her beautiful crystals, we became one with Mother Earth herself.

On this breezy night our altar candles blew out again and again. Surrendering to nature we repositioned our intimate circle into a cozy dark cocoon for circle speak.  I could hear the presence of Mawu in the timber of their voices as they spoke of their connection to Mother Earth.mawu01  This ancient practice of embodying Mawu had subtly changed the energy of the women in our circle.  Our closing chant was simultaneously grounding and releasing.

Until we meet again, stay grounded with a light heart.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped rebuild the labyrinth.

Tamara Trejo

Balance

Maat, Goddess of justice and balance, hails from the Egyptian pantheon. According to mythology she is the gate-keeper who appears at the end ones life. With an ostrich feather in her hair she stands sturdy and forthright holding a scale to weigh your heart. If your heart is heavier than the feather you must reincarnate as human to learn the lesson of a balanced life.  It’s an injustice to walk through your life with a heavy heart.

On this mid spring full moon we dedicated our ceremony to Maat.  Our rituals were centered around letting go of anything that weighted heavy on our heart and the embodiment of balance. In keeping with our traditional Maat rituals we weighted our hearts, burned our burdens, held our loves close you our heart and danced the Celtic weave. Most enlightening was the gifts shared in circle speak.

We communed by the fire, a clay chalice filled with wine was passed as our talking stick.  Each women shared her antidote to a heavy heart.  Hilarious stories and jokes, melodic chants, profound words of wisdom and tangible works of art, were shared. The gentle power of this elusive tribe nourished our Goddess particles, brought light to darkness and fortified our feminine circle.

As the natural world surges with new life and activity so do we Moon Mothers.

Below is a list of events from the women of our circle.

First Full Moon of 2015 on 1-5-15

Gina Chang

Gina Chang

On this first full moon of the new year, we gathered to honor the infinite Goddess that resides within each of us and our pure potentiality.

mm_1-5-15

After opening ceremonies, we celebrated the woman who chose to be born in this darkest time of the year, Kellie Morlock. We offered her our love and blessings and received her beautiful song in return.mm1_5_15_02

We moved inside for a slide show and watched each Full Moon Ceremony of 2014. As the images floated by, we celebrated our year together, and then released it, creating space for the excellent (perfect) days to come.

Tammy led us in meditation as we created our most perfect day. We journaled and shared: some waking up in tropical locales, some in our own beds, some skipping around the globe. Inspiring and supporting each other as each most excellent day unfolded.

After our closing circle, we called down the moon as she crept up through the trees, sharing her Goddess light.

Harvest Moon

Mary Baxter

Waves crashed a few feet from the circle of Moon Mothers who accepted the invitation to honor the Goddess Vesta, Keeper of the Hearth, on this Harvest moon, the last full Moon of Summer.vesta07

We celebrated around a fire pit laid in the sand, later to be fed with the Wisdom Wands of each Sister, sharing quotes and poetry brought specially to this hearth of hearts.vesta04

There is a rhythm to the rituals that flow through the Moon Mothers as this ever- evolving group of women experiences the realms of the Goddess as directed and interpreted by Tamara Trejo. First we form a circle, this one blessed by a family of dolphins that swam by us and waved as we began to gather. What a beautiful sign.

We purified our energies and the land on which we stood with the ceremonial smudging of sage. Next, holding hands – left hand facing up to receive, the right hand facing down to give – we opened our circle, each inviting loved ones not able to be present for the moment. The four Sisters born in the month of September, all standing right next to each other, completely unplanned, in our larger circle, were celebrated as we sang and circled around them, each of us offering a birthday wish to them, and then receiving their thanks.

vesta02

The fire rose high, burning the Wisdom Wands as the words poured from the Moon Mothers, sharing what the Goddess Vesta had inspired.

Finally, with the glow of the Moon teasing through the fog, we called down the Moon, released the fullness in our hearts, and carried this beautiful sharing with the Natural World into our own homes, to our own hearths, welcoming what comes next.

Mawu Mother Earth

Sharon Guynn

Sharon Guynn

As I walked down the dusty rocky bumpy trail to Maverick’s Beach, smelling the cool fresh air, seeing the beautiful trees sway in the wind and looking upon white bird feathers peeking out on the earth’s floor, I knew I was in a profound area of nature.  Slowly approaching a beautiful stone labyrinth overlooking Half Moon Bay, there were small ships bobbing in the water, I marveled at the sight of such beauty.  Wow! This was simply magnificent for my eyes to behold.  I was in awe.

We gathered around a beautifully decorated, candle lit altar to hear the herstory of Mawu.  It was very enriching to hear about this particular Goddess.

Goddess Mawu (prounounced Mah-woo) and sometimes alternatively spelled Mahu, is a West African Mother Earth Creator Goddess, associated with both the sun and moon. She is the Goddess of the night, of joy and of motherhood as well as the ruler of the world’s, wisdom and knowledge.  She is the one who brings the cool nights to the hot African world.  Mawu is also the Goddess of motherhood, since it was she that created the first humans out of clay, and she gives humans their souls.”

“Mawu’s  themes are creativity, Universal Law, passion, abundance, birth and inspiration.  Her symbols are clay and the moon.  Mawu inspires the universe’s abundance and every dreamers imagination.

Mawu makes the land fertile.  So get yourself a seedling today and bring it into the house to welcome Mawu and her creative powers.  Name the sprout after one of Mawu’s attributes that you want to cultivate.  Each time you water or tend the plant, repeat its name and accept Mawu’s germinating energy into your spirit.  “Mother Mawu, make me whole. Help me obtain my sacred goal’

We started our Full Moon ceremony with the traditional blowing the Conch and bringing our awareness to honor the Moon.

We honored and acknowledge the August Birthday women. In celebration of their birth we offered positive affirmations of love, strength, healing, empowerment, happiness, and joy.  We formed two single lines facing one another to begin our whispering voices tradition of guiding the eyes closed, Birthday women down the protected fence like lines of women, infusing them with our empowering prose of wisdom.  The whispering voices reminded me of the all of the Goddesses whispering sweet delights and affirmations into my being.  This was a powerful experience of keeping in touch with our sense hearing.

The Birthday Women gave back to the group with gifts of homemade peanut butter cookies with a large chocolate chip in the center, beautiful flowers of our choice and lovely heart-felt Kisses were thrown through the air for all to receive.  The childlike little girl came bursting out of me with laughter, which reached deep inside my soul.

Walking the beautiful stone labyrinth was a special treat of connecting to Mawu Mother Earth.  Each foot step brought my awareness to the energy radiating from the surface.  After walking the labyrinth I was open and aware of  Mawu, and felt the energy of Mother Earth running through my body.

We prepared ourselves in a lying position on the ground, our heads facing the altar to begin our Meditation session.  To a soothing beat of a drum that vibrated throughout our connected circle I felt my body relax deeply as I focused on connecting to Mawu, Mother Earth.

1170711_521728154574871_1145224904_n

After the meditation, we shared the evenings experience by passing the talking stick, honoring the trees, personal connections, healings, rejuvenation, listening to the earth sounds, the foghorns, reflections of wisdom, and connections to Mawu, Mother Earth.

We closed our celebration by chanting the vibrational sound OM 3 times.

In these sessions, we will explore gateways to the present moment, and practice different aspects of everyday courage, through experiential exercises.

Sample activities: deep listening, musical collaboration, role playing, writing, speaking, movement, touch, breath. No prior experience is necessary (or possible!).

Sessions may involve featured guest presenters.
