Light of Lakshmi

A few weeks ago I felt the world upon my shoulders.  With a burdened heart and sadness on my face, I walked down a public corridor.  My footsteps were heavy and my posture coiled as I plodded along.  From an adjacent hall bounced a vibrant maiden.  Light on her feet, her gait was airy and sure.  Her aura twinkled like a sparkler on the 4th of July.   Her smile was so bright it lit the hallway. She passed me on her merry way.  Her light was contagious.

I felt my spine straighten, and my face muscles relax into a smile.  Without a word or a glance her vibrant light, fueled my tiny embers of light, which ignited into remembrance of my power to switch on my own light.  Even in the darkness of heavy situations, I can choose light and grace over darkness and hostility.

On this November full moon, we Moon Mothers dedicated our ceremony to Lakshmi, Goddess of abundant light and prosperity.  We shared our light as we each spoke of our own brilliant gifts.  We fed our sister’s soul-flame by acknowledging her brilliance and divine strengths.  On a dark bluff top, lit by a small center flame, our ritual became a visceral festival of lights.  Sincerely spoken words of acknowledgement and recognition polished the soul-light of the women so brightly, it could have been seen by google maps.

Lakshmi’s blessing of abundance was delivered, in both divine wealth and material richness.  Thank you, Michelle, for opening your sacred beach home for our gathering.  Thank you, Mary Baxter, for the delicious dinner.  Thank you, Eva Derksen for the delicate handcrafted Goddesses.  Thank you beautiful Moon Mothers, for showing up so brightly and sharing your light.

May your light be kindled through darkness.

May you be the power source to arouse the luminescence in others.

Light of Lakshmi

Once our circle was cast, we paused to watch the setting sun melt into the sea.  The final light of the sun miraculously flashed green.lakshmi04  Shouts of joy and astonishment set the tone for our divine feminine circle.  On this rare super moon we gathered at the private, bluff top home of Michelle Pettigrew.

Our ceremony was dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess of abundance and shining brilliance.  We all needed some light after the darkness of last week.  Taking a respite from our mourning we reignited the light in each other and kindled our own inner light.

Around the ceremonial fire we were tethered to each other as a mirror of light.  Without fear of being deemed conceited, each woman spoke of her brilliance.

Like a slow moving lava flow we moved inside to get cozy and be soothed by Leah’s powerful voice as she sang, I am Light, by India Arie.

Is this ceremony enough to keep our spirit shining bright for more than a night?  As the moon wanes and the darkness of this time returns, check your mail box.  The light expression letters will be mailed when the moon has vanished from the sky.  One thing we know for sure, Mother moon will slowly return to her full brilliance and so will we.

’til we meet again, keep shining.

Thank you Erica Crawford for your excellent photography.

Sincerely,

Tamara Trejo

Arriving at the Full Moon Ceremony, we were greeted by bright golden sunflowers that formed a passageway to sweet Mary Baxter’s smiling face. She tossed fresh rose petals upon us. From there we floated up the stairs, distracted by coins of all shapes and sizes covering each step of the way.

More Moon Mothers flowed in and then joined us in our circle outside. The last rays of the sun setting, produced a light glowing radiance of calm. The air was fresh and there was the hint of a soft gentle breeze. An abundant evening of ritual and ceremony had begun.  Goddess Shirley Nickolai blew the conch. The deep rich tribal sound helped anchor us as a tribe as we called in the seven directions. Each of us in turn, called in our ancestors and those that could not be here with us. Lovingly and thoughtfully , we saged each other.

Fran and Heather stepped into the center of our circle so that we could honor their birthdays. We chanted our celebratory song as we moved counterclockwise around them.  This is Abundance!
Then we went inside and settled into a cozy circle. Tammy encouraged each of us to be recognized so that we may shine with more brilliance. Then she wove a web with shimmery colorful ribbons, crisscrossing the room. Each strand of the ribbon united two women to each other. The two women would then reflect and mirror each others brilliance. I sensed the energy and the inspiration of the vibrating web of life that the shimmery ribbons generated, it was also a visual delight.

Spontaneously, a joyous song broke out:

We are the weavers.
We are the woven.
We are the dreamers.
We are the dream.

Two women at a time took turns. They intuitively expressed what they saw and felt about the woman they were mirroring, as well as articulating their own brilliance. There was a sparkle in the eyes of the women as they stopped, focused and took time to reflect. Flashes of insight were revealed. The collective vital life force was palpable.

To keep this feeling of bright spirit last, we transitioned into our letter writing. Each one of us put a self-addressed envelope in a central wicker basket. The basket was then passed around and we each randomly picked someone else’s envelope. We anonymously wrote words of encouragement and wisdom to them. Then the envelopes went back into the basket. Our second letter we each wrote to ourselves. As we wrote these letters, the room was a buzz of life, bright conversations, sweet tea, treats, smiles, laughter, hugs. The Moon Mothers were aglow and energized. All the envelopes were then placed in the beautiful woven wicker basket. I admired this basket full of love letters. They will be mailed off during the darkness of the next new moon. This is Abundance!

We gathered again, Annette Ward led our closing ceremony.  Nancy Hall sang an amazing and fitting song. Her voice is truly a gift.

When we called down the moon, the sky was crisp and clear and the moon was a big bright and shinning WOW! Out came an elated trill. Many wonderful connections were made. The ripple effect of this circle is growing into more women’s circles.
May we spread our love and light to encourage women near and far of their wonderful wise abundance.
A rich evening was had by all.

Lakshmi Circle

ChrishomeUpon entering, each woman walked on gold satin laced with shiny coins and was showered with fresh rose petals by Sweet Light Donna Scheifler.  As she walked along the path she was met by Peaceful Warrior Elaine McMaster, who placed a bindi on her third eye to stimulate her intuition and serotonin factory.

We cast our circle under cotton candy clouds in honor of the Goddess Lakshmi. In loving kindness, we celebrated Nancy Petty. Returning our energy, she gifted each of us with a heart-shaped rock that she found at the beach.

As night fell we retreated into the cozy candle-lit round room.  There our circle became two, one nestled inside the other.  To attract the blessings of Lakshmi by way of brilliance, we shined our spirits with the spoken word.  Each woman looked across the circle to find her circle sister mirror.  Then with talking stick in hand, one by one we spoke of our own brilliance and the light we see in each other.  Being acknowledged for our brilliant gifts and speaking of them in a circle of receptive women ignited our sense of richness.

To keep this flame glowing we wrote a letter to our selves and one to a randomly chosen circle sister.  The letters were collected and will be mailed on the next new moon.

The Hindu Goddess Lakshmi is the bridge between earthly wealth and divine abundance. She is attracted to brilliant souls and blesses them with abundant prosperity.  We Moon Mothers recognize the many forms of abundance and open ourselves to receiving.

Thank you Chris Ridgeway for creating the most enchanting home, and for opening it to our circle.  Your kind generosity is deeply appreciated.  May you be abundantly blessed by Lakshmi.

Sincerely,

Tammy Trejo

“Dress in layers and bring a flashlight and a blanket…” We should always have these few things in a bag in our cars for any reason, but it is always the suggested list on the invitations to attend the monthly Full Moon Ceremony.

We weren’t able to take a chance at meeting at the Enchanted Forest last night because of the predicted storms, so we met instead at the magical studio of Tamara Trejo.

The front porch was lit festively with an inviting little white tree topped with a star and the building was adorned with strands of deep blue garland lights that ran the entire circumference of the roof line – someone has been hard at work! Beautiful!

I showed up a little late, and as I reached the group gathered in the back area, they were all dancing and shaking to a rock and roll song requested by one of the November birthday babies; this night had energy!

The ceremony took place the main room of the studio, and as we all got comfortably seated, Tammy led us in our circle speak. We were honoring Lakshmi – the Goddess of Abundant Prosperity. Lakshmi loves bright, and shiny things; she is the perfect Goddess for this season as the nights begin so early and go so long and can be so dark! So to help get the attention of this Goddess you are to adorn your homes, your windows and your bodies with flash and bling! Who doesn’t like that?!

Every ceremony is unique – last night we listened to our lovely Meta play a solo piece on her flute which brought the energy into a quiet calm, readying us to go deep within and to ponder ourselves and our lives.

We then gave our attention to Amy, our Dragon Crone, who led us in a call and response, calling in Lakshmi; the room was filled with our singing voices. We then turned inward for a brief meditation giving us the time to consider the night’s question, “When does the world witness your brilliance?”

This is when I realized how sweet the night truly was and how this thought provoking exercise serves: I realized during my meditation that, it’s the physical elements that we set out to catch her eye; Lakshmi will then come in closer to see one’s brilliance if you put it out for her to see! What really happens is that she turns the light back on you! The abundant prosperity resides within us all! Lakshmi is a vehicle for us to see what we already have inside. The Circle speak was so beautiful because we all got to share our own brilliance with each other, uninhibited, and supported and learned things about ourselves in the meantime.

Lisa Forward shared a beautiful song that was written by a dear friend who has passed from this world – we all sang and honored Sass and will sing her song again and next time perhaps with the accompaniment of Meta, the Flutist!

Just in time, Mother Moon peeked out from behind the clouds so our ululations blended with the light of the November full moon accompanied by Jupiter shining brilliantly just above. Brilliance was our theme — celebrating Lakshmi, Goddess of Abundant Prosperity. We shared our individual and unique brilliance — shedding our usual humility and putting on our cosmic BLING!

And then we went out and bought lottery tickets (literally or figuratively)! Bring on the gold and riches! (To anyone who wins — I dearly treasure our relationship and wish you good luck in winning tonight’s fortune. You know you have always been my favorite (although I’ve been careful not to show it) and I sincerely hope you win. Perhaps these tidings of good luck and fortune may swing the odds in your favor. I’ll be thinking of you tonite. If you win, please share the great news with me ASAP. Sending along a virtual hug with this message! Love, Chris

Many blessings and best wishes to our November birthday mothers. May this be the best year of your lives — the potential is here and within your reach. Shine your light … and DANCE!

Abundant blessings and love, Chris
